Are we Human or Are we Dancers?

I desperately miss ballet! I go each summer religiously and get back into great shape and improve my technique enormously. Then school rolls around and I'm too tired or sick or bogged down with homework. So, each summer, it's like beginning again.

I've been trying to start stretching in my free time to get my muscles back in shape before I head back for the summer session. Hopefully, I'll have some muscle memory and can jump up a level or two. Is it too much to hope that senior year will be an easy, floaty year and I'll actually be able to have a life outside of school??

Dear Diana

So, while I've been exploring new names, I finally got around to uploading my first shots with my Diana Camera! They were test shots for the most part, as I was trying to experiment with lighting and the different settings. I'm impressed with them, however, as I was frightened that they might not turn out at all!

Enjoy!

What We Call Ourselves

I've been contemplating a new title for this blog, recently. 'what we have here is a dreamer' is just too long and unoriginal... While I still love The Virgin Suicides, I just don't think the title reflects everything I put here.

Here's the titles I have so far:
1. Bittersweet
2. Love & Butterflies
3. DreamCatcher

The list could go on and on. I have all sorts of words tumbling out of my mouth and floating from my fingertips all the time. I would ask for a vote, but nobody reads anything here except me. Which is fine. It's like my own little corner in the giant webs of the internet.

Gypsies

So, my dad has told me on several accounts that we (him and I) have Gypsy blood, also known as Black Dutch (German Gypsy). I find it all rather interesting, because all the stereotypes about Gypsies fit my father and I.

We both hate having to stay put in one place. I think if we had a choice, we could be nomadic. We're both clever, tricksters even. We both know what people want to hear and we both have an excellent skill for catching when someone is lying. I'm have a talent for dancing, which my mom always says can't come from her side because she's got two left fit. I can account for that, she is indeed rather clumsy.

It makes for lovely fantasies as well. Who doesn't want to run away and live off their whims? Who doesn't want to have that kind of freedom?

Odd-Fish and Neef the Changeling

So, over spring break, I had lots of time to read books and I discovered my two new favorites.

Summary: "Jo Larouche has lived her thirteen years in the California desert with her Aunt Lily, a faded Hollywood starlet, ever since she found in Lily’s laundry room with this note pinned to her blankets:

This is Jo. Please take care of her.
But beware.
This is a DANGEROUS baby.

Up until this point, Jo has been, as Aunt Lily puts it, “as dangerous as a glass of milk.” But all that’s about to change. At Lily’s annual Christmas costume party, several strange things happen: a boy in a hedgehog shoots an elderly Russian colonel; a talking cockroach is found tied up in the basement, moaning about how this will play in the tabloid press; and a box falls from the sky, addressed to Jo from “The Order of Odd-Fish.”

Soon, worsening circumstances lead Jo and Lily out of California forever–and into the mysterious, strange, fantastical world of Eldritch City. There, Jo learns the scandalous truth about who she is, and she and Lily join the Order of Odd-Fish, a colorful collection of knights who research useless information. Glamorous cockroach butlers, impossible quests, obsolete weapons and bizarre festivals fill their days, but two villains–one quite pointless, and one more demonic than you can possibly imagine–are controlling their fate. Jo is inching closer and closer to the day when her destiny is fulfilled, and no one in Eldritch City will ever be the same."

Summary: "Neef is a changeling, a human baby stolen by fairies and replaced with one of their own. She lives in "New York Between," a Manhattan that exists invisibly, side by side with our own, home to fairies, demons, mermaids, and other creatures of folklore. Neef is protected by her fairy godmother, Astris (a very lovely white rat) until she breaks a Fairy Law. Now, unless she can meet the challenge of the Green Lady of Central Park, she'll be sacrificed to the Wild Hunt. Neef is a native New Yorker, and she's determined to beat the rap-- but New York Between is a maze of magic and magical rules, and time is running out...."

Free People Summer Dresses

Dreamers Streamed and Strappy Dress
I love the new Free People dresses. I'm hoping I can convince my mama that summer is coming (damned cold front!) and she'll let me get at least one!
