Let The Right One In

'Let the Right One In' is one of the most tender, yet disturbing, coming of age stories I've read (and then watched) in a long, long time.
It tells the story of Oskar, a bullied twelve year old Swedish boy who befriends Eli, a mysterious and very strange girl. Eli smells like death, only comes out at night, must be invited in and acts nothing like a normal twelve year old girl. Oskar falls in love with her anyway. And the more he begins to know about Eli, the more he begins to fear her. Fear, however, won't keep him away from her. Even after he discovers she a vampire (yeah, you didn't see that one coming, huh?), he still wants to be with her.
Oskar learns how to stand up for himself through Eli and I think (this is subject to much debate) Eli learns what it means to care for someone truly. It's heartbreaking and breathtaking. Its brought up these dark worlds in my head, where everyone is guilty yet not evil. The power of this story is that everyone does something wrong and has characteristics that are thought of as revolting, and you feel for them nonetheless. Oskar wants revenge, Eli kills to survive, parents choose other things over their children, people take advantage of others.
I'm not spoiling anything else from the book or the movie, other then both are gory and bloody (so those with quesy stomachs, beware) and yet, wonderful. This is a story you need to let in.

Wishlist #1
So, I'm starting my birthday wishlist! Is it a bit soon? Probably. But it's fun. Bask in my amazing collage skills. Anyway, this is what I like from Free People. I'm afraid (specifically for my mother) that this is only the beginning of my list.

May Day!

Happy May Day!
Unfortunately, I'm not celebrating much on account of a terrible cold I've been battling this week and the standardized tests I've had to face the last couple of days. So, instead of dancing, I will be creeping into my bed and sleeping very soundly, hopefully.
As my birthday is approaching this month, I'm thinking of posting a wishlist and possibly my party plans. Right now, I'm planning a costume/garden party. My friends seem excited about it, and I think it will be fun.

idyllic

I've picked a new name! It's only taken me how many days? So I've chosen idyllic. It fits perfectly.
I was having an anxiety attack in my history class while reading about hippies. I saw the word idyllic and thought, my goodness, that's a wonderful word. And so, now everything is idyllic.
And if I could choose a mascot, it would be a deer. They seem to live in a rather idyllic world, don't they? Doe-eyed innocence and gracefulness.

Are we Human or Are we Dancers?
I desperately miss ballet! I go each summer religiously and get back into great shape and improve my technique enormously. Then school rolls around and I'm too tired or sick or bogged down with homework. So, each summer, it's like beginning again.I've been trying to start stretching in my free time to get my muscles back in shape before I head back for the summer session. Hopefully, I'll have some muscle memory and can jump up a level or two. Is it too much to hope that senior year will be an easy, floaty year and I'll actually be able to have a life outside of school??
